The accusation of „In the Name of the Family“ association that weekly „Novosti“ spreads hate against Croats is indeed spreading of hate and instigation

15.02.2017.

The Croatian Journalists' Association (CJA) alarms public due to dangerous untruth coming from „In the Name of the Family“ association. By that nonsense this organization justifies its claim to cut the financial support from the State Budget to weekly „Novosti“, published by Serb National Council and to ban it to apply for the support for 3 more years.

„In the Name of the Family“, as anybody else, has the right to ask whatever they want, including banning of financial support coming from the State Budget to any media, but it has no right to offend and to instigate. And that is exactly what they did when the Association’s leaders stated that „Novosti“ encourage intolerance and spread hate against national majority, i. e. Croats.

For those severe accusations the Association’s leaders have not given any real argument – just examples that may be used as pseudo argument, demagogic and populistic, lately very widely spread.

Therefore the CJA understands this attack against weekly „Novosti“ as a part of orchestrated hunt against „unsuitable“ nonprofit and other media as well as against civil society associations. And that we find to be very dangerous regarding democratic values.

At the same time, it seems it does not bother „In the Name of the Family“ that some media, financially supported by public money, actually enjoy impunity and spread intolerance and hate, but against national or other minorities.

Therefore the CJA calls Croatian political leaders to clearly condemn attack regardless the originator and authorities to react in actual cases of instigation and spreading of hate.
